Refer Your Friends and Family and Receive Credit at Courtney Lewis Photography

Nothing makes me happier than a client telling me how much they love their images from their portrait session, but I love it even more when they tell others!

To show my appreciation and give back to my loyal clients I’ve started a new client referral program to reward my clients. Joining the program is simple. All you have to do is refer me a NEW client and you’ll receive $25 towards your next session with me (applicable towards the session fee only, deposit still required prior to booking) or to use in addition to the print credit.

All new clients will receive $25 gift credit and 8×10 print just for being new to the CLP family.

As a loyal client of Courtney Lewis Photography you may stack up the referrals to earn a free session and/ or print products! There is no limit to the amount of referral credits you can earn. However, all credits need to be redeemed annually, within on year of receiving them.

Here are the rules:

  • To be eligible to receive a referral credit you must have had at least one previous session with me.
  • Referral money can only be used as credit towards future sessions or as a print credit.
  • Referral money is not transferable it can only be used by you.

Family Portraits at Blue Jay Orchards, Bethel, CT

This year Courtney Lewis Photography held its annual orchard portrait sessions at Blue Jay Orchard’s in Bethel, Connecticut. Blue Jay’s is such a great orchard and one I have visited as a child. Being there brought back many childhood memories. There are rows upon rows of trees to pick from, huge barrels that allow you to grab and go, and also plenty of tractors ready to give you a tour of the orchard.

Featured in today’s post is Raquel and Mia, who came ready in their best fall outfits. During their session we enjoyed moments of apple picking, walking through the orchards and even sampling a few of the apples!

Visiting the orchard for our annual portrait sessions is one of my favorite things to do throughout the year and look forward to it! Check out a few of last year’s posts that took place at Beardsley’ Cider Mill and Orchard in Shelton, Connecticut

The Year in Review

I cannot believe that 2018 is coming to a close in just a few short days. It’s true the older you get the faster time goes by. With that in mind, I thought I would take a moment and reflect on all the I have accomplished this year.

2018 was HUGE for me in terms of photography. For years, I struggled with finding a niche, really narrowing it down to what type of photography I really wanted to dive into and give my all. But throughout this year I found that I really do enjoy capturing people and documenting their smiles. And although I found my niche there is still so much more work to be done, skills to be learned, and practice to be had. But overall I’m excited to see what 2019 has in store for me and my business and I look forward to growing and improving.

Wishing all my clients the happiest of New Years.

Sandin Family Session at Beardsley’s Orchard and Cider Mill, Shelton, CT

Fall arrived so quickly this year. It seems as though it gets shorter and shorter every year which is disappointing as Fall is one of my favorite seasons. When planning ideas of Fall mini sessions I decided to host them at a local orchard. What’s better than hot apple cider, warm cider donuts, and views of endless rows of sweet bright red apples? I hosted three families at Beardsley’s Orchards and Cider Mill in Shelton, CT.

We had tons of fun shooting the kids running around, sampling some of the apples, and overall enjoying the orchard. We managed to squeeze in a few posed shots! Here are a few images from the Sandin Family! Click here to view the full gallery.

Tim’s Family Session at Beardsley’s Orchard and Cider Mill, Shelton, CT

Fall is finally begining to settle in here in New England. My goal for next year is to offer my clients more styled shoots and I thought starting this Fall would be a great oppourtunity to try this new concept out. I offered Fall inspired mini sessions held at Beardsley Orchard and Cider Mill this first go around. It was great to see everyone come dressed in some of their Fall bests! Children had the chance to pick their own apples and fill baskets we could use during the shoot. Beardsley is a beautiful apple orchard located in Shelton, CT. They offer several apple varieties, ciders, and of course cider donuts all sold on site in their farm store. If your local or in the area I highly recommend stoping in a visiting them!

Over the next few weeks I will be sharing galleries that took place at Beardsley. Enjoy the gallery below of the Tims’ family. Full gallery coming soon!

Tips on What to Wear for your Portrait Session

I have to say one of my most common questions prior to a portrait session is “What should I wear?” Below I’ve outline my top 5 tips to help you prep for session. Give them a read and comment if you have any tips I should add and expand on!

  • Consider your location
When choosing what to wear it’s important to consider the location of your session. It’s best to think of the potential backdrops you’re images will have. For example are you going to be at a busy apple orchard or a beach. If you are having your portraits taken at a location where there are a ton of different backdrop options wearing neutral colors is the way to go, but wearing patterns can distract from the main focus of the photo.
  • Choose timeless clothing
Stay away from trendy clothing options…unless you plan on having portraits done more than once a year. Don’t get me wrong having a fun creative photo session is a great idea and lots of fun! But you have keep in mind your plans for the final images. For example, am I going to display this in my home or is this just for fun? Wearing timeless clothing will most likely lead to you wanting to display images from your session year after year.
  • Choose an outfit you feel most confident in.
When you’re wearing an outfit that makes you feel good it’s displayed through your confidence. It’ll be easier to pose and smile for the camera if you’re not worried about what your wearing!
  • Coordinate but don’t match.
I always think that some of the best photos are the ones where everyone is wearing something from the same color scheme. Choose a few colors and pick items that will match the scheme.
  • Ask your photographer!
My last tip in planning your photo session is work with your photographer. Yes, they are there to take your photos and make sure they are everything you expect. However, part of that process is making sure you have everything you need prior to start of your session.

A Fall Engagement Session with Chris and Tara at Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel, Connecticut

Tara and Chris were excited about their upcoming nuptials and decided to have a quick mini engagement session. Since Fall was in the air they choose Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel, CT as their backdrop.

We met on a dreary Fall afternoon but the seasonal colors help make for bright and airy photos. Check back soon for the wedding post! See below for the full gallery.

Late Summer Family Portrait Session with the Johnson’s at The Seawall in Stratford, Connecticut

The Johnson family are avid beach goers and love the summer! When planing their session a beach location was required and I was happy to oblige as I too love the beach. I decided on shooting at The Seawall in Stratford, CT; it’s  mostly beach but also a great walking spot right on the Long Island Sound. A great place to stick your toes in the sand while embracing the seabreeze AND it’s also a great spot for a photo shoot!

My First Family Portrait Session at Edgewood Park, New Haven, Connecticut

Just sharing some cute pics from one of my first sessions in beautiful Edgewood Park in New Haven. This is hands down one of my favorites places to shoot, especially in the spring. This park is massive, so big sometimes you have to drive to switch up locations, but there is so much variety it’s worth it. And the best part is during the spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, you get some of the best spring images.
